da PHP4 a PHP5

Ho trovato nella rete del codice per creare un forum. Se utilizzo il codice predetto con PHP4 il forum funziona benissimo ma, se vado a settare nel vs server PHP5, il forum non funziona più, cioè non visualizza più i records contenuti nel DB e non ricevo nessun messaggio di errore.............qual è problema???

C'è la variabile $id usata nella query che compare dal nulla. Viene passata allo script in qualche modo?
